A quick personality quiz has been popping up in the blogs I read. Trader Eyal is an ISTJ, Trader Gav is an ISTJ, and the Trading Goddess is an ISTP. Wow, the results are so similar! I have noticed I’ve never seen any of these three in the same place at the same time… hmm….
Anyway, rest assured that I am clearly not any of them. My results came back saying I have an INFJ personality type, sometimes called “Counselor Idealist”. I think there are big passages in those two write-ups that describe me pretty well (even though they read a bit overdramatic in places). However, I won’t tell you which parts, because my profile says I’d only tell people close to me. So, bite me, losers. :-)
I took a similar quiz as part of my old job, and got very different results. So, either I have changed, or I gave the answers that I thought would be good for my career back then. I don’t think they were interested in an intuitive feeler running hundred-million-dollar software projects!
So, as it stands, the only needed personality trait to trade is “I”, for introversion. I wonder if there are any “E”s out there, and if they are making any money…
cramer has to be an E
I had the same thought, but I don’t know about Cramer. He seems to have deep issues that he’s compensating for by being so loud. I see Martha Stewart the same type of way. There seems to be something… wrong… with them that keeps trying to bubble up. I think they are fascinating from that angle.
I am eNfP. Basically, I am not cut out to be either an engineer or a trader LOL
I’m an INTJ.
Btw, I love the new blog design!

[...] Historically, I would have moved my stop up to about $15.70 at around 11:00 am, and waited to see what would happen. This kind of play would usually turn down and stop me out with a very small profit. I decided to take the 0.58R that fate gave me and call it a trade. I guess the next day or two will show if my read was correct. Here’s the tick chart, showing the weakness I was perceiving (I am an eNfP): [...]
Cool… so that’s several combinations. I guess we haven’t seen an ES__ trader yet.
@Richard: I tried trading ES for a while, apparently I need a different personality to trade it well ;). Seriously though, I am an INTP. I proudly told my wife I was an INTP, and so was Newton. She rolled her eyes.
I am a hybrid (Never did like being cubby-holed!):
66% INTP
33% INFP
[...] When you’re bored while watching the markets, most of you know by now I suggest you look at it as a gift. People with normal jobs can’t just goof off whenever they want. You can (if you are a full time trader… if not, that’s just one more reason to envy full time traders)! But, sometimes, I want to watch things close enough that I can’t go do anything significant. That’s when it can be fun to take a few minutes and take a personality test. Or, as I did today… do a google search for the phrase “Richard looked like“, and see what comes up. Here were some of my results: Richard looked like an old gay pirate Richard looked like–well–Richard. I still remember what Richard looked like, what he sounded like, and, most unfortunately, the feeling of abject terror when I realized he was having a… Richard looked like he was going to start crying again. [...]
if richard looks like an old gay pirate, u should be cryin’ (NTTIAWWT — crying or being an old gay pirate)
some of the results for “John looked like” are pretty amusing.
u have entirely too much time on your hands
Clever writing…Mr. INFJ :-)
