No Excuses, but

I just had a chance to pull up a chart with the EFI histogram. I thought the MACD might substitute to find the divergences, and use the EFI beads for the signal. With both indicators on the chart, its not even close.

I sent another email to support at Investor RT. When this gets fixed, I’ll resume trading normally. Tomorrow, I’ll what happens if I manually refresh it at key points. When I tried that Monday it was too distracting. If nothing else, I’ll get an early start on the holidays. I doubt CNBC (cock n’ balls channel) will be calling again.

I didn’t lose much money today, but I was getting chopped up. Winner/loser/loser/winner/loser/loser…You get the picture. As Richard might guess, I wasn’t having fun. The divergences on the EFI were money.

You’re running I/RT on a Mac too? I thought I was probably the only guy using a Mac to trade on.

I see Dinosaur Trader complain about eSignal’s support and I feel for him because my experience with I/RT’s support has been great. A lot of the time Bill Linn himself responds to my emails, and apparently he’s a Mac fan.

Have your I/RT support experiences been ok?

Do you use IB and DTN Market Access for your real time and historical data feeds?

Hope you get your issue cleared up quickly.

AT: i’ve only been with them a few months, but their support has been great so far…yes on the IB and DTN market access for data feeds…there really weren’t many options available for macs, but I/RT has all the bells and whistles…it also seems like they keep up to date with new ideas (from TASC or wherever), and incorporate them into the platform…A+ in my book…well, A- until they get this bug fixed :-)

Right, the only other “full blown” program I could find is Trendsetter, but I tried the demo and it was pretty complicated and for being Mac-only software, it wasn’t very Mac-intuitive. I’ve also run I/RT on one of my PC’s side by side with my Mac and it’s nice to have the identical software on both platforms if you need it.

AT: definitely…i’m new to the mac experience, and there’s no going back…i’ve been thinking of making the switch for years, and when my computer took a shit on me, i didn’t want to go through the hassle with vista

  5. Attitude Trader Says:

Wow. That’s a good “switch” story.

I’ve managed Mac and PC networks in the past and I’ve had Mac’s forever. I have a (an “old”) PowerBook 17″ G4 and I like the way it works with I/RT better than on the PC just because of some of the things the Mac does. I have other programs running (like Excel for my trade log, Word for my trade journal, IB TWS, etc) and my Mac allows me to move my cursor over a chart and have it show me the O/H/L/C info even when I/RT isn’t the “active” or “front” program. That way I can enter data on my spreadsheet or into my TWS and not have to switch away from those programs to get the price data on my chart.

And it runs all those programs so much better - *IF* one crashes, it doesn’t bring the whole system down.

I bought a MacBook for my daughter last Christmas and she uses it EVERY day for school and communicating with her friends. I finally got my mom to buy a new iMac about two months ago and she feels like she’s actually enjoying using a computer now rather than fighting with it constantly like she used to with her PC. I’m getting an iPhone for Christmas, and even though some people think they’re overkill or whatever, I can’t wait. My daughter has one. It’s amazing and she loves it.

I have two PC’s in my office (one for proprietary work-related software, one for backup & testing) and another sitting in the garage, so I could easily use one of those for trading but I just don’t want to.

Anyway, if you ever have any Mac related questions, feel free to ask. I think they’re great. I’ve even noticed that sometimes when Dinosaur Trader visits my site he’s using a Mac. Hmmm…

AT: i appreciate the offer…right now, i’m trying to code up some custom indicators for I R/T…its going a little smoother than when i tried to program in wealthlab…its something to occupy my time while they fix the bug in the EFI (sent another email, but no response yet)…btw, have u heard of william blau?

i forgot i had this book until around 11pm last night, and i spent half the night trying to come up with ideas…i’m going to send richard an email and see if he’s heard of him…interesting ideas to say the least

  7. Richard Says:

I think the ergodic candle oscillator, which I have always like, came from Blau. Not sure what else he did, though. Did he do the TSI, or was that someone else?

  8. Mr. White Folks Says:

richard: i think so,…i’m reading now where he states the value in double smoothing a momentum indicator to reduce the lag at turning points…his ideas make sense…Momentum, Direction, and Divergence is interesting…he doesn’t give a system per se, but a set of concepts to work with…no hard and fast rules, like u this setting, or even this indicator…however, he gives a whole new set of possible indicators, depending on what you’re looking for

  9. Attitude Trader Says:

Haven’t heard of him. You guys are way more into the programming aspect of trading than I am. Good luck though.
