Remember back in January when I said I was going to transition to automated trading to free up more time for EOTPro? Yeah, me too.
I haven’t talked about it much, because there hasn’t been much to say. Nearly all the time I could free up went straight to EOTPro instead of automated trading research. It’s no surprise why… I remember when we had 17 members total. Now we have 17 members named Dave!
EOTPro is still growing, and working on expanding in new and exciting directions. That means even more demands on my time and attention. About a month ago I asked myself again if I should stop trading altogether so that I could devote more energy to the project. This made me a little uncomfortable.
So I quit.

Okay, it’s a bit more complicated than that, but the main reasons are:
- I want time to focus on my own trading, which hasn’t improved much over the last year (the first year I can say that since I’ve started)
- I’m really enjoying the new collaboration team I’ve started. I think we are starting to see the benefits already, and it’s very early in the game.
- I was seriously influenced by the book, ‘Free.’ I don’t really want to be in a business model supported by locked down information anymore. So I’m releasing all of my indicators through the collaboration team now, in free and open source.
I love the EOTPro folks, and wish them well. If you ever find yourself looking for a live trading room, I don’t know of anything better. If you were following my work through EOTPro and want to follow it into the future in open code for a lot less money, check out the Team (and the intro and questions posts). Of course some things will still be released totally free through the blog as well.
I’ve spent a looooong time thinking about this, and finally reached a firm decision while on vacation. It was a lot of money to walk away from, but in the end I always choose quality of life over money. I highly recommend that to everyone!
Hi Richard,
A bold move, but one that will free you to do new things. Making these types of decisions are often very difficult, but can also be very rewarding. And even if you change your mind later, you can’t fault yourself for following your heart and aspirations.
I wish you the best!
Mike
Thanks. Yeah, it was tough to do. What looks bold today may look stupid tomorrow, but I’m only gonna live once, so…
Richard,
I told my wife a few weeks ago that I didn’t expect you to be at EOTPRO much longer. I’m very good at reading people and situations (I just wish I could read the market as well). Good luck. I enjoy your blog.
Andrew! That’s so funny. With skills like that, I’m sure you’ll be reading the market in no time. It’s just a bunch of people (and their machines), after all.
Richard,
Thanks for all your great work at EOTPRO and I wish you the best of luck on your future endeavors.
Take care!!
Regards
Bill
Richard, I have followed your website along with all the work you did over at EOT, and I too wish you the best and will continue to follow all that you will continue to do. Regards,
Jeff
Let me say I was both surprised and not by receiving rIchard’s goodbye… I think I can speak for all of us at EOTPro when I say that we will miss you, your humour, your smarts, and your contributions. That being said, as one who has entered a new journey myself in motherhood, I understand the need to follow your dreams. So on behalf of us all I want to wish you all the best in your future endeavors rIchard, may your life be filled with adventure, riches, and wonderful journeys.
Shelly
Richard,
So sad, you are/were such an asset to EOT. I hope you keep blogging. I really enjoy your site. I love the Tick Molest its a real gem. Thanks for all that you do and have done.
Richard, I hope you all the best and remember you will always be my friend.
Glen
A sad day for the EOT Pro community. We wish you well, Richard — and I’m sure that most of us will continue to follow your work. :)
This is not sadness, this is an opportunity. The creative tachet acquired through this alchemy of change will continue to enrich both communities.
I venture to say that we are all still family here. A tribe of like minded individuals, all with actionable content to contribute.
E.
Thanks, everyone!
Gee, I can’t think of anything sappy to say. Good luck.
Gord
Well Richard this means that you will not be giving me anyomore brain cramps during the lunctime break talking about technical analysis. LOL . Still would be a nice touch if you came by the trading room to give your final goodbyes . We all would apprciate a final goodbye from you in the EOTPRO.COM Trading room,Richard .. :)
Not to sound too harsh, but you do not owe an explanation to anyone because unless you have made a contractual agreement with someone for X period of time, your time is your time in the end. It is very easy to get spread too thin, trust me. Since you are staying in the trading arena, you do not want anyone you have worked with feeling like you took away clientele (intentional or not). If I understand correctly, you are essentially going on a sabbatical / special focus consulting on a very limited basis, so unless someone antes up with some big bucks for your expertise or to subsidize your research in the meantime, your time is best spent getting on with your bad self in your research arena IMHO…
Adios,
Ricardo
P.S. send a PayPal money request to my email address and I will sign up for your brainstorming session group
Trevor: yeah, what Ricardo said sounds about right. When time is up, it’s up, and both sides need to move on. I wouldn’t know how to go talk in the room anyway without it turning into a pitch for my current offerings, and that’s not fair to the remaining eotpro folks.
Ricardo: Exactly. I’m don’t see a way for me to send you a subscription request through paypal, but if you just go to http://www.movethemarkets.com/blog/team, the button is there.
“…but in the end I always choose quality of life over money. I highly recommend that to everyone!”.
Yes and yesss!
I admire you for actually living your life. I wish I could do this too.
Thanks, Konstantin. I’m sure if you stay focused on your goals, you can live your life as you want as well. It’s always scary, and there are sacrifices to be made, but it’s worth it.
Congrats on your new phase of trading life, Richard. Thanks for all your mentoring and the opportunities you have shared with everyone, including myself!
Richard,
I had no idea you had decided to leave EOTPro. I haven’t been on-line for a while…Congrats. I think you have showed a natural ability to trade that I had not seen before; I am sure that has made any decision easier to take. I just re-subscribed to the Team, as I think it holds a lot of value. Present and future.
Best of luck.
Hey Claudio, nice to hear from you again, and welcome back to the Team! It’s grown a lot since the early days when you were there, so I hope you like what you see.
