Tori Amos interview on MSN Music regarding American Doll Posse, due out on May 1st! Interviews with her can border on frustrating, since she’s so cryptic and all over the place. But, you have to imagine it’s her unusual way of looking at things that infuses the music with its otherwordly quality…

I would love to have the tablature for this! Looks so fun.

I wouldn’t have been able to hum this tune, if someone asked me what SMB2 sounded like. But, I obviously played it a lot of hours whenever it was new, because I immediately recognized it when I heard this guy play it. Funny, how that stuff gets wedged into your brain after hearing it so many times!

To avoid non-standard <embed> tags, you can use the <object> tag:

<object data="file:///tmp/test.pdf"
       width="640"
       height="480"
       type="application/pdf">
  <a href="file:///tmp/test.pdf">my test pdf file</a>
</object>

Note that the link to the file is only given if the browser cannot figure out what to do with the <object> tag. That way, at least those people can still download the file, or something. When I tried this with Camino it didn’t work until I had supplied the width, height, and type arguments. Makes sense, I guess.

Just a note to myself so I remember how to do it. Actually, as long as you stick to pdftex, it’s pretty easy:

\\input graphicx

Hello.  here is some text!

\\includegraphics[width=3in]{/tmp/foo.jpg}

And here is some more!

\\end

You have to give the images a width, so that it can figure out what it wants to do in terms of dpi. There is no inherent dots-per-inch size to a bitmap file… just a size in pixels.

God

The first Tori Amos song that caught my ear… I remember very clearly being on a shuttle bus at college when it played on the radio. I had no choice but to ask around until someone could tell me who it was. This is from Under the Pink.

This is the “official” music video. I think it comes across better than the live performances I could find, due to all noises used in the music:

Regina Spektor, from Begin to Hope. This appears to be an actual “official” video, rather than a live performance:

Regina Spektor, from Soviet Kitsch. Here’s a live performance with decent audio. Some cute banter before the song starts.

Regina Spektor, from the bonus tracks on the extended edition of Begin to Hope.

Here’s another version, which didn’t allow embedding in this page.
