In Dallas, some woman thought she could buy out an AT&T store’s iPhones to put on eBay. So, she payed some kid $800 for his spot in line, and found out her plan wouldn’t work when she got in the store. oops!

The story is confusing, because she said she wanted to buy $100,000 worth of phones. But, in the video she only has $16k of cash on her. Maybe the rest was going on credit?

Anyway, even though she was likely too profane to show on camera after she got her bad news, the policy probably saved her a fortune. You can still walk into stores around here and buy one, and eBay already has lots of iPhone listings. She’d probably have a hard time turning much of a profit on them if she had gotten them.

In fact, the kid in line was far more shrewd, as he didn’t even need his space (he was in line with 2 other people and they only wanted two phones, total). AND, he managed to get $800, which is more money than he needed to buy the phone. I’m surprised the person second in line didn’t undercut it and offer her second-place for $700, or something. I guess with a camera crew following her, she wanted to get the flashiest place in line possible.

I also wonder if the camera crew and/or reporter knew about the limit (because it seemed like common knowledge to me anyway), and chose not to tell her so they could get their amusing story…
